Austin Transmission Repair

These folks were good to me, and I was sort of a "problem customer": I had a TON of questions, was super stressed, and called back and forth multiple times, and then had a holdup with my insurance company that delayed repair and decision-making. I know they have limited space and had to hold my vehicle there for a week before they could move forward with repairs, which I felt bad about and seemed to cause them some trouble. But they took care of it/me and everything went very smoothly after I finally got my insurance adjuster over there to meet with them and cut them a check. I had to get the transmission rebuilt on my VW Rabbit (golf). First of all, some other shops in town won't do VWs, or are more expensive. Thankfully (!!!!) my insurance covered this repair, but I had called around to several other places and Aus-Tex gave the most reasonable estimate AND the best warranty on the work I could find. That's why I picked them.I waited a couple of months to write this review so I could drive my car in all conditions/speeds and see how things went. Happy to say that it has been great. Smooth all around. You would never know it had been rebuilt. Maybe even better than it was before. They also don't advertise this anywhere on the site but I swear they did some kind of mini-detail on my car. It was returned to me cleaner than it started out, at least, inside and out, including wheels. It was super filthy when I took it in.The only issue I can think of is that right on their homepage one of the rotating images advertising free towing with transmission repair; but they didn't seem to know what I was talking about when I asked. They probably just need to update the website or maybe I'm missing something. In any case they DID come and tow my car to the shop right on schedule, no problems, and again, insurance took care of it all, so who cares, I have no complaints.Another thing that definitely sets this shop apart is that they send frequent photo updates to show how the work is progressing on your vehicle. You always know exactly what is happening and when. Who does that?!? Pretty cool. I also appreciated getting the estimates and billing in writing, and especially the warranty in writing (w/o having to ask). Pepe came and said hi as I was leaving and told me about following up with care/maintenance in the next few years.

Pepe rebuilt my 2005 Passat TDI transmission almost three years ago.I recently brought that same vehicle to them for what I thought was a transmission vibration.Turned out to be a front CV axle.Repaired at a reasonable cost.But that's not the reason for this review...My vehicle had also developed a vibration while in gear but not moving, like when stopped at a red light.Two other local shops were unable to fix it, even after replacing engine mounts (which needed to be replaced, but didn't help this issue).Valentin at Aus-Tex went above and beyond the call of duty - he continued to trouble-shoot, and even researched on the internet to find a possible solution.Long story short - he fixed it.(You can ask him the details if you need to know.)The vibration at idle is gone, and my Passat is like new again.I've gone from hating to drive my vehicle back to loving it!We live about an hour's drive from Aus-Tex, but I will gladly make the drive again to have my vehicles repaired by trustworthy, reasonably priced, and (most importantly) COMPETENT mechanics.I would highly recommend Aus-Tex to anyone needing a skilled mechanic team they can trust.Thanks Valentin and Pepe!Dennis Caldwell

2003 BMW X-5 Transfer Case. I spent a week trying to find a transmission place that would repair my transfer case and not try to sell me a rebuilt one. Auto-Tex knew right away that is was probably my transfer chain. They checked it out and it was the transfer chain. Quote to fix came to $1150, 12 month warranty too. Three other transmission shops said they could not get parts and wanted to sell me a $4000 rebuilt transfer case. I dropped off the car on Wednesday night. They diagnosed the problem on Thursday. Ordered the chain and gear on Friday. Installed the parts on the following Tuesday and I picked it up that night. It has been running like new!!! Very,very happy with Auto-Tech..You will be too!!

This is the kind of shop and people you want to work on your vehicle! They didn't even work on my car - they came out and told me that they could buy it made no sense to charge me a bunch of money only to possibly see me again in a few years. The parts needed are no longer made in the states and are not of the same quality as OEM. Their candid and direct advice was much appreciated and helpful. Thank you so much!

The best experience I've had from ANY auto repair shop in almost 25 years. I took my 2007 Nissan Frontier for a timing chain replacement. Pepe and his team repaired the problem at a great price. If you really want an auto repair shop that cares,please look no further. I will definitely be back. Thank you

Aus-Tex is a great shop and great people to work with for any of your repairs! I have a 2008 F-250 and it was running rough and was eat diesel like it was free. I took to PePe and he took a look and after going thru all the systems, flushing out the engine internals and checking the complete exhaust system he found that the diesel particulate filter needed to be replaced.Wow what a part, 8 inches in diameter and about 2 feet long and a hefty price to go along with the size. PePe worked his magic and got a good price (a heck a lot cheaper than the dealer) and got it installed and even updated the computer system to the most up to date version.So if you need any kind of automotive work, Gas or Diesel, engine or transmission take it to PePe and guys and gals at Aus-Tex.

Honest, fast, great work at fair price. I was having trouble with the transmission of my 07 Sportrac, I had my transmission re-built they charged me far less than anyone else would have. Not only that, their quality of work is backed up. Their customer service is phenomenal!
